Hi, Lou. I am not going to lie to you. imiquimod cream over the counter I used aldara for 8 weeks, 5 days on, 2 days off. By the last week I was about in tears, it was so uncomfortable. I slept in our recliner for 7 weeks, as it was the only place I could be comfortable. But, don't give up! After two surgergies and being told I would have to have another, I said enough and found a Dr who would work with me, and try the aldara. And so worth it, I am 4 and a half years with no signs.Good luck and definetly try to hang with it through the next week.

How long after using the cream does it clear up completely,it doesn't look like its clearing yet and iv only got till next Friday left.iv got it on my back,2 on my chest and 1 under my breast.the one on my back looks like it's working it's a dry scab now but my others are like open wounds and weeping.

Mine started healing a few days after I finished the 8 weeks. It still was pretty tender. My Dr gave me some cream to put on it to soothe it. I has to apply it to my perineum, which was really uncomfortable. Mine looked like raw hamburger and wept the whole time after the first week. why I slept in the recliner, because it felt like things crawling on me there. So the weeping I don't think is a bad thing.

Thankyou for ur help,I was panicking because thought it was meant to heal before u finish the cream but I feel ok now.

You are most welcome. It, can be scary, it was for me. From what I have read and my Dr told me. aldara only attacks the cancer. It, does not affect skin that has no cancer . so, it only attacks and turns skin that has the cells into hamburger and weeps ( hamburger in my case). But, bad as it hurt. I looked at it as yaah attack and destroy the cbad cells.Glad, I could share my experience and hopefully help.p

Hi Lybris,I know it's been awhile, but do you remember how long it took for the scarring to go away from using the Aldara? I stopped two weeks ago and I seem remarkable improvement. Most of the red blistering has gone away and the spots look a little brown on my legs. The spot on my eyebrow is still quite red and it's healing more slowly than the other, but it IS healing. I was just wondering how long it takes for the skin to appear normal.

Drug Side Effects

The most common side effect of Aldara is a localized skin reaction, which occurs in roughly a third of all cases. http://genitalwartstreatment.net/imiquimod-aldara Dermatological symptoms may include:

  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Sore, blister, or ulcer
  • Thickening or hardening of the skin
  • Changes in skin color
  • Skin peeling
  • Scabbing and crusting
  • Itching and/or burning

The area being treated is likely to look worse before it gets better. Avoid sunlight (or sunlamps) as this may worsen the symptoms. When outdoors, use protective clothing or a hat to cover the affected area. In some cases, any changes to the skin color or texture may be permanent.

Other potential side effects include headaches, back pain, muscle aches, tiredness, fever, swollen lymph nodes, diarrhea, and fungal infections.

Contact your doctor immediately if you have a severe skin reaction, if you develop flu-like symptoms, or if sores begin to develop during the first week of therapy.

In rare cases, patients may have no reaction to Aldara; this may suggest the medication is not effective in them. Patients should contact their doctor if they have no reaction to Aldara after applying it for one week.
